EDEN, N.C. (June 18, 12:35 p.m. ET) -- ITW Plastic Packaging plans to reprocess a wider range of materials at a plastics recycling plant that the company purchased in December.

ITW Plastic Packaging, a unit of Glenview, Ill.-based Illinois Tool Works Inc., bought Blue Ridge Plastics LLC of Eden, N.C., on Dec. 5.

Blue Ridge, which has been in operation since 2003, reprocesses post-consumer and post-industrial high density polyethylene and polypropylene for the industrial and agricultural markets.

“Adding the Blue Ridge operation into our existing business will help us control raw material costs while allowing us to expand our plastic manufacturing capabilities into new growth platforms,” said Gary Markert, vice president and general manager for ITW.

ITW Plastic Packaging manufactures transport packaging including plastic slip sheets and tier sheets. The company is pleased with Blue Ridge’s location and efficient manufacturing operation.

“The size of the facility gives us room to expand and add more capacity as our volumes increase. We expect to be processing a wider range of materials as we utilize our synergies with other ITW units in the coming years,” said Keith Anderson, ITW Plastic packaging manager.
